The 9th, located on the ninth floor of the Centre Eaton de Montréal and inspired by the dining room of the ocean liner Île-de-France, was designed in 1931 by Art Deco architect Jacques Carlu at the request of Lady Flora Eaton. Designated a Quebec cultural heritage site in 2000 after its closure in 1999, this unique space has been restored to host today a restaurant (Île-de-France) blending Old World French culinary traditions with contemporary Montreal influences, a cocktail bar (Le French Line) offering panoramic city views, and an Art Deco performance hall (La Grande Salle) for various events. After being closed for nearly 25 years, it has regained its former glory as a cultural and gastronomic landmark.
